Marty McFly, a special polydactyl cat with extra toes, came to us from the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Marty came to us anemic, hyperthyroid and with early kidney disease. We started treatment for his thyroid with methimazole, but Marty had a bad reaction to the medication and we had to discontinue and go to Plan B — find Marty a home! Our next option was to treat Marty with a diet that is formulated for hyperthyroidism, but it isn’t safe for non-hyperthyroid kitties and that’s a challenge in our communal rooms.

It’s not easy to find homes for older kitties with multiple medical issues but you can see how much Ashley loves this boy so she stepped in, ready for the challenge! Marty went home on 12/12/24 where his hyperthyroidism (and it’s good for the kidneys) can be treated with Hill’s Y/D food. Congratulations Marty - we will miss you sweet boy and we’re here to help you and Ashley along the way.
